North Carolina Guard Wants to Visit

Justin Watts, Class of 2008, talked recruiting with InsideIllini.com last night. Read here on his plans for the upcoming season and which schools have contacted him.

Justin Watts is a 6?5 shooting guard and a three?star recruit here at Scout.com. Watts told us last night that Illinois is on his radar. "I don't have an offer from any of these schools but they have all contacted me and shown some interest: Clemson, Georgia, Illinois, UNC, Boston College and Virginia," said Watts.

Watts said he's somewhat gone under the big picture because he has been injured most of his high school career. "My sophomore and junior year I was hurt most of the time and it really set me back. When I was healthy I averaged 24.6 ppg, 9.4 rebounds and 3.6 assists," Watts told us.

This young man knows what he is looking for in a college and will survey it to make sure it happens. "I want to attend a school that has a winning tradition, a lot of exposure, good players and a place that has a good campus life because I know I won't be playing basketball all the time and I want a good atmosphere when I pick a school, too." Watts said.

"I know about Illinois. I used to watch them all the time when they had Dee Brown and Deron Williams. I was a BIG Dee Brown fan when he was there. I like the fact that Coach Weber can put his players in the NBA, but that's not the only reason to attend college. I want to make sure I get a good education so I will have something to fall back on," he added.

Watts has never been to Champaign, but he would like to set something up here real soon and make a visit to the campus. "It would be nice to meet the other players up there," Watts said.

"I'm going to take my time when I pick a school because it's a big decision in my life. I had a great July so a lot of schools saw what I could do; hopefully something will come out of it," said Watts.

We hope to know when Watts decides on a weekend in Champaign. When we do we'll update you right away.
