Brandon Paul Commits to Illinois.

When you're hot, you're hot and Illinois' men's basketball coach, Bruce Weber, is on fire. Last night Weber received another commitment from one of best guards in the state of Illinois, Brandon Paul. Read here for the Brandon Paul story.

First it was 2009 Peoria star guard D.J. Richardson, now it's 2009 Warren Township star Brandon Paul giving Bruce Weber the verbal. Paul is a 6-4 guard that will certainly compliment an already star-in-the-making backcourt with Demetri McCamey and D.J. Richardson.

Mrs. Lynda Paul told us this morning that her son made the decision last night. "We just decided to make the choice last night, it was a lot easier for us because our oldest son goes there. Illinois is a great academic institution; we just love the school and everything about it! I like the new practice facility, it's a great situation for any student-athlete because they can go there to play basketball and then stay there if they would like to study or do homework. It's a winning situation for us," said Mrs. Paul.

Brandon's parents have certainly done their research on Weber and the University of Illinois, "Illinois will be good, I think they have the talent and coaches to win the Big Ten again. We've seen them at work and the recruiting is good and going to get better. I really think they will do well once they get in the tournament this year,' said Mrs. Paul.

"We are very happy about this decision. Brandon was receiving mail from these schools pretty much everyday: Marquette, Notre Dame, Iowa, Iowa State, Florida, USC, Texas, Baylor and Clemson. But Illinois, because of what it has to offer my son from an academic standpoint and basketball, was the right decision. There were two schools that kept putting pressure on and we didn't like that, not so much the schools but just people," she added.

"What I really don't understand, and this is just me, why don't more of these top players from the state of Illinois go there? Two kids just left to go far away and I don't get that. But the bottom line is, those people have to do what's best for them, but I just don't understand it," Brandon said.

The Paul family is as sharp as they come, they know what life and college is about, "we are Brandon's parents. He has a mother and a father. We want Coach Weber to be his basketball coach and teach him more from that standpoint."

"Tomorrow when Brandon gets out of school we'll be making the trip down to watch the team practice and workout, so we'll be making a weekend of it," Mrs. Paul stated.

D.J. and Brandon may be just the start of something. Weber is on fire and I think it is safe to say this fire may stay lit for a few more days.
