Illini Grade Well In Win Over Gophers
QB Juice Williams looked very comfortable running the offense, Williams rushed for (18-133) and was (14-21-207) in the air, with a long TD strike of 47 yards to Jacob Willis. Star running back Rashard Mendenhall ran for 201 yards. As a team Illinois chewed up at total of 655 yards on offense.
Illinois held Minnesota to 17 points when the Gophers came in averaging 26.5 points per contest. Illinois still managed to give up 337 yards of total offense. Through the air Minnesota QB Adam Weber was 18-31-208 connecting with WR Ernie Wheelwright for 9-123 of them.
Special Teams: A+
Rock Island, IL. native Jason Reda kicked field goals of 47, 37 and 51 yards making his job look easy on the night. Illinois did a very good job of not giving up too many big plays on special teams, only a 51-yard kick off return.
Ron Zook, and Offensive Coordinator Mike Locksley seemed to score at will and did a nice job of mixing things up. Illinois was able to score 47 points, that's the most in one game all season for Zook's crew.
