A.J. Jenkins Makes Visit to Memorial Stadium

Being from the south and making a trip to the Midwest was definitively a treat for star receiver A.J. Jenkins. Get inside for more on his visit this past weekend as the Illini beat in-state rival Northwestern 41-22.

A.J. Jenkins is a four-start recruit and member of the Class of 2008 from Terry Parker HS in Jacksonville, Florida. The one-time Georgia Tech verbal commitment made the visit to Memorial Stadium in Champaign, IL this past weekend. Jenkins de-committed from the Yellow Jackets back in October. "I made the mistake of committing to soon, I just want to take my time and make the right decision. I have a lot of schools I will visit. I don't have a top 5 or anything like that. Before I make my decision I want to visit South Carolina, West Virginia, Georgia Tech again, and maybe try to set something up with Florida, but that one I'm not too sure about," said Jenkins.

This past weekend Jenkins visited Illinois and took in the Northwestern game, "It was a good time, things are really different up there. I was very impressed with the people and the fans. It was something different because I'm from the south and everything was so different, the way people talk and dress. But it was good to see what else is out there, you know," he said. "Even their swagger was not the same, I really liked it. Oh, and they have really, really nice facilities like their locker room."

Jenkins came away impressed with Illinois after his visit, "I liked how their fans got into the game, and they throw the ball a lot which I like. Next year they have a lot of seniors leaving so that means Illinois is a place where playing time will be available." Jenkins also had the chance to spend time with current Illini players and coaches, "The players were a lot of fun. I can't remember all the guys that I hung out with but the two main ones were Juice Williams and that really good player, number 9, Arrelious Benn. Even the coaches were good. Coach Dan Disch is the coach that's doing most of the recruiting with me," he said.

"I'm not going to tell anyone who leads for me or anything like that. Right now, I plan to know more about what's going after I take all my visits. I want to make [my announcement] special and put on that hat during the Army Bowl game. So, I'm not going to say anyone leads or anything. I want it all to be a surprise," said Jenkins.
