It is Benn's second honor by the publication, also being named TSN's Big Ten Offensive Freshman of the Year, and his eighth postseason accolade.
Benn broke the UI freshman records for receptions (49) and receiving yards (596) in his rookie campaign, and averaged 7.4 touches per game, including receptions, rushes and kick returns. He proved to be one of the most electrifying players in the nation this season, averaging 11.1 yards per touch, including a 90-yard kick return for a touchdown on the first kickoff he returned as an Illini.
The Washington, D.C., native also was named one of Illinois' Rookies of the Year at the team's annual banquet on Saturday, sharing the honor with freshman linebacker Martez Wilson. In addition, Benn was named Big Ten Freshman of the Year by both the coaches and media, was a second-team Freshman All-American by both Rivals.com and Scout.com, and was named to Rivals.com's All-Big Ten first team.
