On Saturday night, the Redbirds' point guard attended his second Saint Louis University basketball game of the season. He was sitting two rows behind the Billikens' bench at Scottrade Center, wearing a SLU t-shirt and watching the home team take on No. 17 Dayton.
Saint Louis lost the game, 68-57 in overtime, but the 6-foot point guard has liked what he has seen from the Billikens and coach Rick Majerus.
"I like (Saint Louis) a lot because of Coach Majerus," said Cotto, who previously watched the Billikens defeat Southern Illinois on Dec. 15.
Cotto is already familiar with the resume of the first-year SLU coach.
"I like him because he can help me get to the next level," Cotto said.
Cotto said he has scholarship offers from Saint Louis, LaSalle and Illinois.
He made an unofficial visit to watch the Illini's Jan. 6 game against Penn State.
As a junior at LaSalle High School in Miami, Cotto averaged 19.6 points, 8.1 assists and 3.9 steals per game.
This season, through 14 games, Cotto is averaging 26.5 points, 5.3 rebounds, 4.9 steals and 3.4 assists per game. Alton, which lost all five starters from last year's 27-win team, is 11-4.
