Jack Cooley is a 6-9 forward/center, from Glenbrook South High School, that Weber feels could be the missing piece to an already great recruiting class coming in for 2009. Here at InsideIllini.com, we have confirmed that Illinois has offered the big man, and feel that he would fit in nicely with what they're trying to accomplish at Illinois. Until this past week, according to a report from Scout.com's Chris Pool, Cooley's only offers were NIU, SIU, Miami (Ohio), Illinois State and Loyola. However, on Sunday, Mike Brey of Notre Dame offered and Weber followed suit. Cooley has made a visit to Wisconsin and lists the Badgers, along with Notre Dame and Illinois, as one of his favorites.
The "new" approach at Illinois is to put the offer on the table to the students they feel has the most upside and can help the program and fit in to Weber's system. For years, the angle may have been wait for who you want and, out of loyalty, hope the kids would stay loyal. That's no longer the case as Weber and company's new aggressive style of recruiting has paid off and they're not stopping. The class of 2010 and 2011 is loaded with players and they are reaching out to all that appear to be big time players.
