Everyone who follows Illinois basketball knows the Illini's five-star recruit, Jereme Richmond, will be playing his high school basketball elsewhere next season, and where is a decision to be made by the family. But we caught up with Bill Richmond, Jereme's father, for a brief update.
"Once he was done playing basketball, he just took some time away from basketball and relaxed for a bit. He has some cousins that play for Evanston, so as a family, we watched them play a lot and followed their quest to win a state championship," Bill Richmond said.
Richmond is a 6-6 wing-forward oozing with talent and athleticism. This summer, he will be playing AAU basketball for The Rising Stars. "We've been with the same team for three years now, there was some talk about Crandall Head playing with us, but that's not set in stone yet. Jereme will start a work-out program with Tim Grover. This weekend he will be participating at the A.T.T.A.C.K., the elite player combine and Grover will be there." said the elder Richmond.
Bill Richmond is very big on team chemistry. The last time we spoke with him, he talked about the importance of being around his future teammates, and that hasn't changed. "We don't have anything set up officially, but we plan to make a few trips down to Illinois. I think that's good for him to be around those guys. With that and playing AAU basketball he'll be busy this summer," Bill Richmond said.
The next two weekends we'll keep a close eye on Richmond, along with other committed Illinois players participating in AAU events. So check back regularly here at InsideIllini.com for the latest information and interviews.
