Kevin Young of Olathe, Kansas has been on the radar of the University of Illinois for the past year and Saturday afternoon the Fightin' Illini extended an offer. "I was very excited. They have a strong engineering program and I am excited to see the facilities" says the 6-5 225 pound defensive end. "I plan on visiting the campus sometime this summer with my family. This is a visited I am excited about."
Young had an exhilarating past few weeks earning scholarships from Iowa State and Kansas State. Kansas, Nebraska, and Missouri are heavily recruiting him as well. Although, the latter three schools have not extended an offer, Young's trainer and mentor Brian Butler has spoken with coaches and is confident that those offers will be arriving shortly. Says Butler, "Kevin is a raw talent, and school are starting to take notice. They like him on film and want to see his progress throughout the evaluation period and summer camp circuit."
Indication from Missouri of the Big 12 gives Young optimism that they could be offer number four. "I have spoken with Missouri and they seem the closest to being my next offer. They said be patient and that they really like me. Everyone else wants to see me at camp." With all the recent attention, Young humbly states, "I have no leader at this point. I want to feel comfortable with the coaches and I have not had the time to see all the facilities and interact with the staff." Young plans on strengthening those bonds by camping at Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, and Kansas State. He also hopes to boost his stock by competing at the Under Armour/Scout.com Combine.
