Taking a look at the Class of 2011

The classes of 2009 and 2010 have already taken shape, very nicely we might add, so Illinois coach Bruce Weber has turned his attention to the class of 2011. Read here for a brief update on one of the players that's been on Illinois' radar for a good while.

Chasson Randle is a 6'1" guard from Rock Island, Illinois who has been on the Fighting Illini radar all season long. Randle was a first-team All Western Big 6 basketball selection this past season and is blowing up this spring with his play on the AAU circuits with the Illinois Wolves. Randle is no stranger to the Illini program, as he has made numerous of trips to Assembly Hall to take in basketball games. He's also made a few trips to play with other potential recruits.

Many know that Weber has already offered another 2011 guard from the talent-rich state of Illinois: Donivine Stewart from Peoria Limestone. Both are very talented players proving to be near the very top in their class. However, the two are very different on the court.

What Randle does well, for such a young age, is compete. He isn't afraid to take on any player, at any time, at any age. He is working on improving his jump shot, which will make him an even more dangerous offensive threat. While some recruiting gurus worry about his small frame, it must be remembered that he is only freshman in high school. Very few, if any, players at his again have a body ready for big-time college basketball.

We'll keep our eyes on Randle this summer as gets ready to spend some time with his high school team which has been invited to participate in a few games this summer at Assembly Hall. We'll have more updates on Randle and other class of 2011 targets as the summer moves on. Keep it right here.
