Kraig Appleton: "I'm not 100% sure yet."

Ron Zook has been working his recruiting magic in East St. Louis, Illinois. Safety Tommie Hopkins and receivers Terry Hawthorne and Kraig Appleton have made commitments to the Illini. Get inside for what's going on with Appleton, who talked about his recent soft verbal commitment.

Kraig Appleton sent shock waves through Illini Nation this week when news broke that he committed to the University of Illinois. He's a four-star recruit with a recorded 40-yard dash time of 4.5 seconds.

"I haven't talked to any of the coaches," Appleton said. "When I committed I did that to a couple of newspapers. I'm not 100% sure yet, but most likely Illinois is where I'm going to go. I want to take all five of my official visits."

At the present time, Illinois is the only school Appleton has visited. The other schools he plans to visit include Wisconsin, Ohio State, LSU, Texas Tech, and Notre Dame.

Appleton's decision was influenced by Head Coach Ron Zook, his staff, and the overall direction of the program. "I liked what they're about and how they do things there," Appleton acknowledged.

Because of his current teammates, Appleton has made an unofficial visit to Champaign. "I went down there and hung out with quarterback Eddie McGee, he was really cool," Appleton stated.

"Once I take all my visits, I'll be sure to let you know how they went," Appleton said.
