Illinois Look To Prove They Belong

Today is college GameDay for fans all across the country; Illini Nation will be watching ESPN tonight at 7:30 p.m. central time as their Fighting Illini take on the Missouri Tigers in St. Louis.

Just how good is this Illinois football team, tonight they hope to prove they belong. Head Coach Ron Zook made this statement to his team all summer. "One thing I tell our players, you are only as good as your last game, and our last game wasn't very good. So we still have a ways to go, and that's the one thing we stressed from our very first meeting. We have made some progress and I want them to be proud of that and feel good about it," said Zook.

One thing you must do is give the Illini schedule makers a lot of credit, it's easy to schedule a cupcake but they're playing one on the top teams in all of college football. "We are going to know exactly where we are. There's no question that their program is one of the top in the country. We are going to know exactly where we are and what we have to work on, what weaknesses we have and what we have to get fixed up. We're excited about opening up against a team like that. It doesn't really make any difference, it is what it is. It's just going to be important that our team goes out there and plays the best we can play," Zook stated.

The last time Illinois entered ranked was 2002, but like previous years a one and done season, if Zook is to keep Illinois on the right track, it's evident a good year in 2008 will show fans last year wasn't a fluke.

Tonight here at we'll have post game information on the State Farm 2008 Arch Rivalry game.
