Lendell Buckner Verbally Commits to Illinois

Defensive tackle Lendell Buckner from Leo Catholic High School in Chicago has made a verbal commitment to the University of Illinois. Buckner gave InsideIllini.com some insight into his future plans and you can read more on that here.

Lendell Buckner is a four-star recruit and the nation's 12th best defensive tackle. He told Ron Zook and his coaching staff he plans to attend Illinois but will take all five of his visits.

"I plan to make a visit to Illinois when they play Ohio State," Buckner acknowledged. "But I'm looking at Wisconsin, Michigan State…I want take a look at Tennessee and probably Michigan. I'm not sure if I will visit all those schools but I'm definitely going to visit Michigan State, Wisconsin, and Illinois. I was looking at Tennessee because they came after me pretty hard, but I'm just looking. I'm pretty solid on Illinois I don't see anything changing my mind. I just want to see what else is out there."

Buckner is definitely capable of applying plenty of pass rush pressure.

"We just had our first game last Friday," Buckner said. "I did pretty good. I had five sacks, which isn't too bad for my first game."

What's next for Buckner? "We play Julian from Chicago," he said. "We should be ok, but our game after that against St. Rita that's going to be a big challenge for us, but we're up for it."

Buckner stands 6'3" and weighs 325 pounds. He's a member of the Class of 2009.
