Illini Coaches impressed with D.J. Richardson

Future Illinois basketball recruit D.J. Richardson, part of the class of 2009, received a visit from two of his future coaches last week, Head Coach Bruce Weber and Assistant Coach Jerrance Howard.

D.J. Richardson, formerly of Peoria, who now attends Findlay Prep school in Henderson, Nevada, likes to keep Illini fans updated on his career while at prep school.

"I've been working very hard on every part of my game since I've been gone," Richardson said. "I work the most on my ball handling, my footwork, pull-up jump shots, and my defense. As a matter of fact last week Coach Weber and Coach Howard came to see me and they said my body looks great. They can tell I've been working on it and Coach Weber said my mid-range game has improved a lot."

Coming into a new situation Richardson knows that he must fight for any position he gets on the floor.

"With this team, I think they're going to play me more at the two and three spots and occasionally some point guard, but maybe not a lot of that," Richardson stated. "Wherever they ask me to play I'll be ready. When I get to Illinois I can see myself being the point guard in the group unless Demetri McCamey is still there. I will be able to be just as successful playing that position also."

Next month will be a great one for Richardson because he gets to come home, "I can't wait for October to get here," Richardson acknowledged. "I come back for my official visit the weekend of October 10-12th. I really hope I can get back home to Peoria for a little bit too."
