Djwany Mera Now Down To Two Schools

The Fighting Illini are looking for defensive linemen, and defensive tackle Djwany Mera was on campus visiting officially this weekend. He describes his visit and his decision-making process.

South Broward High School defensive lineman Djwany Mera visited Illinois this past weekend. The school made a favorable impression on him.

"I really enjoyed it. I had a real good time."

Mera spent the weekend meeting Illini players and coaches, and he felt comfortable with them.

"The players were cool, the coaches are great. I could see myself going to Illinois."

His tour of campus was highlighted by the football facilities.

"I really liked the stadium a lot."

The 6'-4", 230 pounder from Hollywood, Florida, felt comfortable with his position coach and the defensive coordinator.

"I think I would fit in well. Coach (Keith) Gilmore is a real cool guy. I think he could definitely help me be a better player. Coach (Vic) Koenning is cool too."

Academic concerns reduced his recruiting possibilities, but it appears Mera has a chance to qualify.

"They want to see what's up with my test scores, and I should be fine."

Mera appears to be down to two schools for his services.

"I'll make a visit to Rutgers next week. I want to see how that goes. I'll make my decision after that."
