Top Prospect Turene Still Considering Illini

Every year, the state of Florida consistently produces top football talent. Kent Turene is one of Florida's finest athletes. He has garnered quite a bit of attention lately, and his offer sheet is now proof of his status among the elite in the country. The Fighting Illini are bucking the odds, but they are still in the race.

Illinois was one of the first to offer Kent Turene, but over the last couple of months, the Boyd Anderson High School linebacker in Lauderdale Lakes, Florida, has received offers from what could be considered the "status quo" of college football.

Turene's most recent offers came from Florida and Southern Cal.

"Both of those are great offers," Turene admits. "They're great opportunities, I was surprised. It felt like a dream."

But what made an athlete who started off the spring with only 3 or 4 offers get so many in such a short amount of time?

"Really, I've just had a good spring. I think coaches seeing my highlight video had a lot to do with it."

With all of these offers in hand, Turene is going to start paring down his list in the near future and is focusing on a few schools.

"I'm going to start narrowing things down sometime this summer."

But among Florida and USC, where does Illinois stand with the big-name backer?

"They're still in the picture, I haven't narrowed it down yet so I'm still considering them."

Turene cites having a good relationship with the coaches as what he likes about Illinois.

"I have a great relationship with Coach (Dan) Disch. They have an upcoming program with Coach (Ron) Zook. It's a program that's trying to get back to the top of the Big Ten."

Turene so far is undecided about where he'll visit this summer but plans to get around to a few schools to check things out.

In terms of favorites, Turene wouldn't name a list of favorites, but said that two schools would definitely be in it for him.

"I don't have a favorite list yet. USC and Florida will be there though."
