Chris Wormley is poised to be one of the premier defensive ends in the 2012 class, both in Ohio and nationally. At 6'5" and 250 pounds, he is already a physical presence at an early age and is continuing to build upon his already impressive game.
Wormley describes his game as, "Aggressive, because I'm always playing forward and fast and looking to hit someone."
His athleticism is something that really gives him an advantage on the field. Playing at an end position suits him well as Wormley is able to exploit mismatches and bully his opposition.
"Hopefully in college I'll play defensive end. I've been playing tight end too but probably defensive end. My speed and my size and my hands are good. I've been working at those."
With plenty of time left before he moves to the next level, Wormley already has a pretty good idea of what it's going to take for him to raise his game.
"I've been working on my hands and my game IQ. I want to get stronger, get faster, and get my agility up. This year I want to get all-state and have at least 60 tackles and six sacks."
On top of his physical game, Wormley is pushing himself to develop as a person as well, which has really garnered the attention of college coaches.
"My stats and just my ability to play football. I'm more of a leader by actions instead of vocally, but I'm becoming more vocal too."
Wormley has early offers from Michigan State, Indiana, Cincinnati, and Illinois. He is sure to end up with more offers in the near future, but the Illinois offer ranks right there with the rest of them at this point.
"I got an offer 2-3 weeks before school ended. It's a good school, and it has good academics and that's something I'm looking for."
Wormley intends to take a few visits this summer and is considering a stop at Illinois for one of them.
"I'll be taking a couple visits this summer, probably only a couple but I'm not sure yet."
Some of the other schools that are after Wormley early are Ohio State, Cincinnati, Michigan, Michigan State, and Iowa. With plenty of time left before he needs to select a school, Wormley plans to utilize the time he has to be assured that he's satisfied with his decision.
"I'm going to take as much time as I need to evaluate where I want to go."
