Jones Finalizes Deal

Tommy Jones can become the second IU quarterback to make an NFL roster after finalizing a deal to join the Cincinnati Bengals. Bengals Coach Marvin Lewis believes Jones has the chance to succeed in the NFL, but he will have to beat out some tough competition in Bengals camp first.

On Monday, former Indiana University Quarterback Tommy Jones finalized the details of a free agent contract with the Cincinnati Bengals. Jones is the second IU quarterback to make it onto an NFL roster this season, as Gibran Hamdan, whom Jones split snaps with throughout the year, was drafted in the seventh round by the Washington Redskins.

Jones will be the third rookie quarterback the Bengals have signed this year, after reaching deals with Heisman Winner and top pick Carson Palmer, and rookie free agent Ryan McCann from Chattanooga. Jones will likely have to leapfrog McCann and Akili Smith, the Bengals' first pick in the 1999 draft, just to make the roster. However, new Head Coach Marvin Lewis seems to be very open minded in roster decisions and will evaluate his options with Jones and his other quarterbacks. Top Stories
