A quick look at the 10 committed players for Indiana in the class of 2014 finds five players on offense and five on defense.
On offense, IU has commits from a quarterback, a wide receiver and three offensive linemen. On defense, the Hoosiers have four defensive linemen and a cornerback in the fold.
So who are some of the players IU is targeting to fill out the class? Today, we'll look at the targets on offense. Please understand this will always be a partial list. These are some of the players we know IU has interest in. The list can be a fluid one.
Wide receiver is a position where Indiana is already pretty strong and deep. And the Hoosiers already have one commit at the position in J-Shun Harris, a 5-8, 165-pound wide out from Fishers (Ind.) High School. But the Hoosiers are still looking at possibly picking up another wide receiver in this class. A couple of names of recent interest include Dorian Baker, a 6-3, 200-pound wide receiver from Cleveland Heights High School in University Heights, Ohio. Baker was at IU for a camp this summer and potentially may visit for an IU practice on Aug. 18.
Coray Keel is another wide receiver IU has been keeping an eye on. Not clear if he has an offer yet, but the 6-2, 190-pounder out of South Gwinnett High School in Snellville, Ga. Is clearly a player of interest.
Perhaps IU's No. 1 target overall right now is 6-7, 265-pound offensive tackle Lukayus McNeil of Decatur Central High School in Indianapolis. McNeil's stock has been blowing up in recent weeks as it seems more and more schools hear about him. Recent offers include Michigan State, Oklahoma and Notre Dame. Indiana is in the mix though as the Hoosiers have been on him for a long time and he has a great relationship with the IU staff.
Another possible offensive line target is Gary Brown, a 6-2, 275-pound guard from Alonzo High School in Tampa, Fla. Brown was on campus for a camp in June as well. He has a wide range of offers from small and big schools. The bigger ones include Kentucky, Indiana and Nebraska.
One thing helping IU at this point in terms of linemen is the Hoosiers have already picked up three O-Line commitments. Indiana will definitely take one more, especially if it's a player like McNeil.
Rounding out some recent targets of interest is an intriguing player at the tight end position. Jaylin Bennett out of Woodlands High School near Fort Wayne, Ind. Is someone IU is keeping an eye on. They haven't offered him yet but as the season progresses that offer could come.
Indiana's football recruiting effort remains in full swing even though things will slow down a little bit now that high schools are returning to session. Still, IU had more than 40 players from the 2014, 1015 and 2016 classes on campus last Sunday for visits and have another big recruiting day scheduled for Sunday, Aug. 18.
Stay tuned for a defensive recruiting update either Saturday or Sunday as Indiana has plenty of recruiting priorities on the defensive side of the ball.
