As I talked about in the debut of this blog yesterday, 2014 guard Robert Johnson will be on campus for an official visit this weekend. Indiana is his leader at this point, and there's a decent chance he commits to Tom Crean and the Hoosiers before leaving Bloomington.
If he does, how will that affect Isaiah Whitehead, another 2014 guard Indiana is pursuing? That's a question I've seen over and over again in the forums over the last few days, so I thought I'd dedicate today's blog to answering that question.
I've talked to a number of people close to Whitehead in the last 24 hours, and I've posed that specific question to them. All of the answers have been pretty close to the same.
"I don't think that will be a factor," Whitehead's assistant high school coach, James Barrett, said.
Barrett, who also coaches Whitehead during the summer AAU seasons, said the Brooklyn (N.Y.) guard primarily plays on the ball but that he has done quite a bit of shooting on the teams he's been on because he's the best scorer.
Now does that mean Whitehead will play a ton of point guard in college? Probably not. I don't see that, though he could play there some. But I do think Johnson and Whitehead would be fine playing on the court together, so I don't think Johnson committing would change Whitehead's mindset.
If you missed it yesterday, Whitehead moved up from No. 17 to No. 12 in Scout.com's new Top 100, and from the No. 2 shooting guard up to No. 1.
Johnson also rose quite a bit in the newest rankings, up 31 spots to No. 54. This could turn into a guard-heavy class, and Johnson and Whitehead could make it a great one.
