This weekend just got even more critical for the Indiana basketball program.
With no committed recruits in the 2014 class, it was already going to be important with Richmond (Va.) guard Robert Johnson taking an official visit this weekend. But now, with James Blackmon Jr., and Isaiah Whitehead taking unofficial visits, the Hoosiers will have their top three guard targets in the class on campus at the same time.
Why is that significant? Well, the recruits will have an opportunity to meet each other and see what it might be like to play alongside one another. Plus, former Indiana guard Victor Oladipo is in town, and he's one of the best spokesmen for the program.
Here's what we know at this point: Indiana is leading the chase for Johnson, who will be on campus Saturday with his family and AAU coach Boo Williams. I continue to think there's a good chance he will be a Hoosier by the end of the weekend.
Whitehead's camp is saying he doesn't have a leader, but I get the sense that Indiana is right at the top of his list. I do expect him to take a couple of official visits before committing, but if he's blown away by his unofficial visit this weekend or official in September, he may not wait.
Blackmon Jr. is an interesting case. I'm not sure how serious he is about the Hoosiers at this point, but you would think being on campus with some of the other guard targets and Oladipo would be a positive thing. Shoot, just being back on campus at all is good.
Don't forget 2015 guard Malachi Richardson will also be in Bloomington for an unofficial visit this weekend. He's always been one of Indiana's top targets in that class, and it could be good for him to get a look at some of the potential commits from the 2014 class.
Now that we know who the visitors will be, all that's left to ask is: Which domino will fall first?
