Hoops Recruiting Central: Talking Whitehead

Isaiah Whitehead dominated the Under Armour Elite 24 on Saturday night in Brooklyn. What does it mean?

Isaiah Whitehead was already one of the top guards in the 2014 class and on nearly everyone's radar. But it's possible his stock rose even higher on Saturday night.

Whitehead, the top-ranked shooting guard in 2014, led all scorers in the Elite 24 game with 26 points. He earned co-MVP honors with Tyus Jones in a 114-109 win.

Whitehead is in Bloomington today and tomorrow for his unofficial visit, and the Hoosiers have emerged as one of his leaders. But with a performance like the one he had on Saturday night, Whitehead could gain interest from other schools, such as Louisville or Kentucky.

I'm speculating, of course, but after Emmanuel Mudiay chose SMU over Kentucky and Kansas, those two schools could turn to Whitehead or guards like him. Louisville is another one to keep an eye on.

Whitehead is on campus at the same time as Richmond (Va.) guard Robert Johnson, but the two did not play together in open gym this afternoon. A positive relationship between those two is obviously important given the possibility they could play together in the same backcourt at Indiana.

Other quick recruiting tidbits:

Decommit James Blackmon Jr. told AllHoosiers.com his unofficial visit to Bloomington on Friday went "great", but it remains unlikely he will end up at IU when all is said and done.

Phoenix big man Michael Humphrey cut his list to five on Sunday, and Indiana was not included. The Hoosiers had been right in the mix with him for some time, but I'm hearing Indiana may have backed off on recruiting him a bit.

Without Humphrey, 2014 center Goodluck Okonoboh becomes even more important. He narrowed his list to Indiana, Duke, Ohio State, Florida and UNLV last week.

I'll have updates with all of Indiana's visitors tonight or tomorrow. Stay tuned.
