Tracking the True Freshmen

It didn't take long for eight of Indiana's true freshmen to see the playing field in the 2013 season. Here's how each of those players did in the opener against Indiana State.

A lot was made in preseason camp about Indiana's true freshmen and the amount of talent that IU has in that group.

Eight of those true freshmen played right away Thursday night against Indiana State.

Here is a quick look at which freshmen played and how they did:

Antonio Allen, DB: 3 tackles and a fumble recovery.

Danny Friend, TE: Saw time at tight end but did not make a catch.

David Kenney, DL: Had 2 tackles.

Darius Latham, DL: Had 3 tackles and was credited with a half sack.

Clyde Newton, LB: Played some at linebacker but did not record a tackle.

Marcus Oliver, LB: Had 3 tackles.

T.J. Simmons, LB: Led Indiana with 9 tackles and was credited with a half sack.

Laray Smith, RB: Fumbled a kickoff return that was picked up by Indiana State and returned for a touchdown. Also had two carries for 11 yards.
