Indiana had pursued Bluiett for some time, but the Hoosiers hadn't been actively recruiting him in the last couple months. Bluiett's former high school coach, Ed Schilling, is on Steve Alford's staff at UCLA.
It's unfortunate that another talented Indiana kid is leaving the state to play his collegiate basketball, but that's starting to become to reality for Indiana. Bluiett seemed determined to stack up the offers and get recruited by as many schools as possible, and Indiana lost interest and tired of waiting around.
Obviously, Tom Crean's priority would be keeping Indiana players in state, but in this particular class, that just isn't going to happen. He earned commitments from two of the state's top players early on, and both have decommitted. Plus, with the staff's connections on the East Coast via assistant coach Kenny Johnson, that has become an equally-appealing plan.
Other tidbits today:
***Our Evan Daniels wrote about it earlier, but California point guard Jordan McLaughlin has narrowed his list to Indiana, Kansas, UCLA and USC. The interesting thing is McLaughlin has scheduled official visits to all of his finalists except Indiana.
McLaughlin told Daniels there is no visit to Bloomington planned. McLaughlin, 6-foot-0, is the ninth-ranked point guard in the 2014 class.
That's all for today. Thanks for reading, and happy Labor Day!
