Whitehead, the top-ranked shooting guard in the 2014 class, plans to take his official visit to Bloomington for Hoosier Hysteria on Oct. 4, his high school and AAU coach, James Barrett, told AllHoosiers.com on Tuesday.
Whitehead took his unofficial trip to Indiana on Aug. 25-26, and came away impressed, according to Barrett.
"The campus was nice," Barrett told our Brian Snow. "It was good to get a chance to meet Coach (Tom) Crean in person an meet the guys on the team.
"As far as him fitting in, there is room for him to play immediately," Barrett explained. "Indiana has a very experienced staff with two assistants who were head coaches. Also Kenny (Johnson) does a great job recruiting and Coach Crean has coached a bunch of pros."
Obviously, it would be huge for Crean and his staff to get Whitehead on campus for Hoosier Hysteria. The event showcases everything Indiana basketball is about, and the fans come out for it like it's a Final Four game. Devin Robinson, one of the top forwards in the 2014 class, is another expected visitor this year.
If they get Whitehead here for Hoosier Hysteria, that doesn't guarantee they get him. I understand that. But it would certainly be a step in the right direction.
One other quick tidbit for today:
***Sean McDermott, a 2015 guard from Pendleton Heights (Ind.) will take an unofficial trip to Bloomington on Saturday for the football game against Navy.
McDermott is a 6-foot-4 shooting guard and has been in contact with Indiana assistant coach Tim Buckley in the past. I'm a Pendleton Heights grad myself, so I've seen McDermott play quite a bit. He's still slight of stature and needs to get much stronger, but he's a terrific shooter in the mold of Butler guard Kellen Dunham.
That's all for today. Thanks for reading.
