I took yesterday off to recharge the battery a bit, but I'm back at it today with more basketball recruiting updates for you.
This is fairly significant news because Okonoboh hasn't yet taken any official visits. Indiana will get his first, like it did Robert Johnson's, and that's a good sign. Okonoboh couldn't have come for Hoosier Hysteria because he's taking the SAT that morning, so getting him on campus as early as possible was a good idea.
Okonoboh is an elite defender, but I have always questioned whether he can develop the offensive skills necessary to score in the college game. Maybe he can and will, but I have my doubts.
Now, let's talk 2014 guard Robert Johnson, a guy we have hit on a number of times since this blog began. I've talked to a number of people close to the situation over the last few days and all have questioned whether Johnson will take any more visits after this weekend.
Johnson is on his official trip to North Carolina this weekend and is scheduled to go to Florida State next week. Johnson's father, Robert Johnson Sr., also told AllHoosiers.com earlier in the week that an Oct. trip to Georgetown was a possibility. But I'm told Johnson could make a decision by as soon as Sunday or Monday after the North Carolina visit is over.
Johnson's recruitment will likely come down to Indiana and North Carolina, and it seems to be pretty close right now. But be on the lookout for news on that front sometime soon.
Other 2014 notes:
***Junior college transfer Stephen Hurt, who played one year at Lipscomb, will take an official visit to Indiana Sept. 20-22. Hurt, 6-foot-11 and 280 pounds, was named the Atlantic Sun Freshman of the Year after averaging 11.5 points and 7.8 rebounds per game for Lipscomb. He played last season at Northwest Florida State.
Hurt likely isn't Indiana's top big man option, but could be a back-up plan if the Hoosiers miss on Okonoboh.
***Isaiah Whitehead still hasn't set up any official visits but I continue to be told his plan is to be in Bloomington for Hoosier Hysteria. Whitehead is the top-ranked shooting guard in the 2014 class.
That's all for today. Thanks for reading.
