Indiana Game Notes

Indiana's game notes for Bowling Green include several players who are moving up on school record lists.

Here are some Indiana notes heading into Saturday's game with Bowling Green:

THE HOOSIERS: Indiana comes into the game with a 1-1 record. The Hoosiers are also 1-1 at home and won't go on the road until Oct. 12 at Michigan State. IU opened the season with a 73-35 victory over Indiana State but then fell to Navy last week, 41-35.

AGAINST THE MAC: Indiana is 36-8-1 all-time against Mid-American Conference opponents. This is the first time, however, that the Hoosiers have ever faced Bowling Green. It's also the first of a three-game series with the Falcons. IU will go on the road to face Bowling Green next season and then play home against the Falcons in 2017. Since 2008, Indiana is 3-4 against the MAC.

LOTS OF Ohio CONNECTIONS: There are 16 players from Ohio on Indiana's roster including some big playmakers on offense. Ted Bolser, Cody Latimer and Shane Wynn all hail from the Buckeye state. Others include Pete Bachman, Patrick Dougherty, Dawson Fletcher, Nate Hoff, Chase Hoobler, David Kaminski, Mark Murphy, Marcus Oliver, Ryan Phyllis, Mike Replogle, Zack Shaw, Alex Todd and Anthony Young.

QUICK STRIKE CAPABILITIES: When Indiana scores this season it wastes very little time. IU averaged 61 seconds on its first nine touchdown drives 75 seconds on its first 11 scoring drives. Indiana had five drives under 60 seconds and two more under 90 seconds. All seven of those drives took four plays or less.

RECORD WATCH: Mitch Ewald needs three field goals to tie Scott Bonnell with the most in Indiana history at 48. Last week, Ewald broke the school record with 120 extra points for his career. Ewald needs 16 more points to move into second place all-time for IU in scoring. He needs 157 points to catch Anthony Thompson, though, the all-time leader with 412 points. Ted Bolser needs three touchdown receptions to move into the top five in that category all time at Indiana. Bolser, with four this season, has 13 for his career. Stephen Houston needs two touchdowns rushing to move into the top five in that career category. Houston currently has 20 rushing TDs in his career.

NOTES, NOTES AND MORE NOTES: • With 108 points scored in the first two games, IU has set a program record for most points scored in consecutive games. The old mark was 106 set both in 1943 and 1945. • Ted Bolser is tied for the national lead with four touchdown catches. His four TD receptions is tops nationally for a tight end. His 11 receptions are tied for second nationally for tight ends. • Nate Sudfeld set career highs against Navy for completions (31), attempts (42), passing yards (363) and total yards (398). • Sudfeld is the first IU player to have back-to-back games with four TD passes since Blake Powers in 2005. • Tevin Coleman leads the Big Ten and is 15th nationally with 170.0 all-purpose yards per game. • The Indiana offensive line has not allowed a sack in 73 pass attempts this season. • Kofi Hughes needs six receptions to reach 100 for his career and become the 19th player in IU history to have more than 100 receptions and more than 1,000 receiving yards.
