Hoops Recruiting Central: Midweek tidbits

Notes on Chinanu Onuaku, Goodluck Okonoboh, Malachi Richardson and more.

It's been quite a busy time in Indiana basketball recruiting. Tomorrow morning, we'll have the third announcement in the last seven days for a recruit Indiana is involved with.

Lourawls Nairn will choose from Indiana, Michigan State, Minnesota and Oklahoma. I'm hearing that IU and Michigan State are the leaders, but as we saw last week, you never know what can happen.

If Nairn chooses the Hoosiers, he'll be the second commit in a week for the Hoosiers, joining Robert Johnson. I'll have a primer up with everything you need to know on Nairn's decision later this evening.

Today's tidbits:

***Indiana began recruiting 2014 center Chinanu Onuaku last week, but the Hoosiers decided on Tuesday not to pursue him any further. Onuaku told reporters earlier Tuesday that he would take a visit to Indiana this weekend, but AllHoosiers.com learned first that the visit would not take place. Onuaku then cut his list to Louisville and Miami.

Onuaku seemed like simply a back-up plan for 2014 center Goodluck Okonoboh, who has already taken an official visit to Bloomington. The Hoosiers continue to lead the race for Okonoboh, but he is also considering Ohio State, UNLV and Florida.

***I confirmed earlier today that 2015 guard Malachi Richardson will be in Bloomington for Hoosier Hysteria on Oct. 4. Richardson has visited IU a number of times, and getting him on campus for Hysteria is obviously a good thing. I'll have more on Richardson later this week.

***IU commit Robert Johnson is also expected to be back in Bloomington for Hoosier Hysteria. He'd like to experience the event for the first time, but he'll also likely play the role of recruiter with guys like 2014 forward Devin Robinson, who lives in his neighborhood. Johnson and Robinson are good friends, so having Johnson in town for Hysteria could go a long way in persuading Robinson to join him at IU.

***Lastly, unrelated to recruiting, but Indiana coach Tom Crean will give a public lecture at 7 p.m. Oct. 2 at the IU Auditorium. The lecture will be titled, "The State of Hoosier Nation".
