A big recruiting weekend

Everything you need to know about Indiana's weekend visitors.

SUNDAY UPDATE: James Blackmon Jr. was on campus Friday and stayed until early Saturday, but was not at Assembly Hall for Saturday night's exhibition game against the University of Southern Indiana.

In a text message, Blackmon Jr. told me he had some things to do with the family and could not stay for the game.

Visitors who were at the game: 2014 F Max Hoetzel with his high school coach and parents, 2015 guard Aaron Jordan and 2016 guard Eron Gordon.

And so, the big recruiting weekend begins.

The Indiana basketball team begins its season with an exhibition game Saturday night against the University of Southern Indiana, and there will be several important visitors on hand for that game.

Here's a look at what you need to know for this weekend in basketball recruiting:

Devin Robinson

He won't be here this weekend, but the 2014 forward will announce his college decision next Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. Robinson will choose between Indiana, Florida, Oklahoma State and Notre Dame.

As I reported earlier in the week, a source says Robinson is torn between Indiana and Florida and that Florida currently leads by a small margin. Other media outlets have since picked up on that report.

James Blackmon JR.

Blackmon, the former Indiana commit, will be in town for a visit this weekend. Blackmon was at Kentucky for Big Blue Madness last weekend, and the Wildcats remain the favorite the land the Marion High School guard.

Indiana is getting the last shot at Blackmon, and it's a good weekend to have him on campus. The Hoosiers have the exhibition game on Saturday and Haunted Hall of Hoops on Sunday afternoon.

Max Hoetzel

Hoetzel, a 6-foot-7 forward from Wilbraham and Monson Academy in Massachusetts, will take an official visit to Bloomington this weekend. He was offered by IU earlier this week and is a candidate to commit sometime soon.

Hoetzel is a great outside shooter who has generated a lot of interest since transferring from California. He has heard from Florida and Kansas in recent weeks and also has an offer from St. John's.

JaQuan Lyle

There's a "possibility" Lyle, a five-star point guard, will also visit campus on Saturday, he told AllHoosiers.com earlier this week. Lyle, an Indiana native, plays at Huntington Prep in West Virginia.
