Indiana was going in for the go-ahead score when disaster struck. With second and goal at the nine-yard line, sophomore quarterback Nate Sudfeld fired a swing pass to Tevin Coleman, who wasn't ready for it and hadn't yet turned his head. He bobbled what turned out to be a backwards pass, and Minnesota recovered.
The Golden Gophers took a couple of kneel-downs to run out the clock.
Down 35-13 with 6:24 to go in the third quarter, Indiana scored 26 unanswered points, taking its first lead since early in the first quarter on a 40-yard strike from Sudfeld to senior wide receiver Cody Latimer.
Minnesota responded with a touchdown drive of its own. On third and six from the Minnesota 49, Philip Nelson found Donovahn Jones for a 19-yard gain. Two plays later, Nelson found a wide open Maxx Williams, who rumbled 50 yards down the middle of the field for the score, giving the Gophers what turned out to be the go-ahead score.
Sudfeld, who entered the game in relief of Tre Roberson to start the second half, finished 13-of-20 for 189 yards and two touchdowns.
Indiana rushed for 227 yards, with both Stephen Houston and Coleman eclipsing 100 yards and scoring a touchdown.
We will have plenty more from Memorial Stadium later tonight.
