"We talked for probably 10 minutes because I was so excited," Giddens told AllHoosiers.com. "It's a huge offer, it's a big blessing. They have been on my radar for a year. It's a really humbling experience."
Giddens is a 6-foot-10, 220-pound forward from Marietta, Georgia. He's the 10th-ranked player at his position in the class.
Giddens already owns offers from Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Louisville, Marquette, Maryland, N.C. State, Tennessee, Texas, UCLA and Vanderbilt. He said he first heard from Indiana last year when Crean attended one of his games.
Giddens first met Indiana assistant Kenny Johnson last month, and the relationship has blossomed quickly.
"When I first talked to him, it felt like we knew each other for awhile," Giddens said. So the relationship started out good."
Giddens said he grew up watching teams like Florida and North Carolina, but said he's known of Indiana for some time and followed along as Crean rebuilt the program.
"I didn't pay attention to that player development stuff until [Victor] Oladipo started blowing up and then I started finding out how he was unranked and stuff like that," Giddens said. "That was just motivating and showed the hard work at Indiana."
Giddens said Indiana is coming after him as hard as any school right now and said he would like to visit Bloomington unofficially sometime soon.
As far as his game is concerned, Giddens is working to become a well-rounded player.
"I'm really trying to improve on the offensive end," he said. "I'm trying to show people that my hard work is going to pay off. One thing about my game is I try to show a relentless motor and just try to do it on both ends of the floor. I'm trying to make sure that I have an all-around game."
