Blackmon Jr.'s crazy debut

2014 IU commit James Blackmon Jr. broke a school record in his first game at Marion. Plus, a look at how Robert Johnson performed in his season debut.

By now you've probably heard: James Blackmon Jr. went crazy in his season debut at Marion on Wednesday night.

Blackmon's final stat line: 54 points, 19-of-24 from the field, and 9-of-11 from beyond the arc. Blackmon Jr. broke his father's school record in the fourth quarter. He had 24 points in the first quarter alone.

"I was just hot," Blackmon Jr. said. "My dad was more than than I was about it."

The competition, well, wasn't all that good. Irvington Prep Academy on only six games in 2A last season. But still, Blackmon Jr.'s performance was still very impressive. Especially for a season opener.

Blackmon Jr. has long been known as the top shooter in the 2014 class, and he certainly showed why against Irvington Prep.

Blackmon Jr. and Marion won't be back in action until Dec. 7 against Lawrence North.

In other 2014 news, Virginia guard Robert Johnson went for 25 points in his season debut against Benedictine. Johnson added eight rebounds and six assists. Top Stories
