A look at Bracketology

If the tournament started today, would Indiana be in the field? We discuss here.

When I saw Joe Lunardi's Bracketology on ESPN yesterday, I have to admit, I was pretty surprised, at least as it pertains to some of the in-state teams.

Lunardi has Indiana in the 68-team field as a 10-seed, sending the Hoosiers to San Antonio to play San Diego State in the first game.

Meanwhile, Butler is one of the next four schools out, meaning Lunardi has the Bulldogs seven spots out for making the Big Dance.

That surprises me because, at least at this point in the season, I think Butler is a better team than Indiana. The Bulldogs are 8-2 with wins over Princeton, Vanderbilt and Purdue and two-point losses to Oklahoma State and LSU. They could easily be 10-0.

The Hoosiers don't really have a signature win, but the good thing for them is that two of their three losses, right now, look to be good losses (if such thing exists). Lunardi has Syracuse as a one-seed and Connecticut as a three-seed. Notre Dame is one of the first four teams out.

It's way too early to be thinking about the tournament, but if nothing else, this Bracketology was an interesting one.
