Yogi Ferrell turned the ball over four times in the first 13 minutes Friday night against Nicholls State.
He was clearly not in his element and not letting the game come to him.
When he settled down in the second half though, Ferrell gave Indiana some of his best minutes of the season.
The sophomore point guard scored 16 points and handed out eight assists as Indiana held off a pesky Nicholls State team, 79-66 at Assembly Hall.
Indiana improved to 9-3 with the win and will face Kennesaw State on Sunday at 12 p.m. in the final tuneup for Big Ten play. The Hoosiers open conference play on New Year's Eve at Illinois.
Ferrell hit 5-of-7 shots from the field including 3-of-5 from 3-point range. And he finished the game with those four early turnovers.
Indiana led by more than 20 at times in the second half before settling for the 13 point victory. IU was a 27.5 point favorite.
Dantrell Thomas led Nicholls State with 24. The Colonels fell to 3-6 overall.
Indiana shot 54.5 percent from the field and hit 26-of-35 free throws. IU only had a 33-25 edge, however, on the boards.
