Monday night's high school matchup between Marion and Indianapolis Tech was highly anticipated because of the best player on each team. Marion's James Blackmon Jr. and Tech's Trey Lyles were both previously committed to Indiana before decommitting. Blackmon Jr. eventually recommitted to and signed with the Hoosiers, and Lyles signed with Kentucky.
Unfortunately for Blackmon Jr., the matchup between the teams was not all that even on Monday night at Indianapolis Marshall High School. Lyles' Tech squad is currently ranked second in the state. Blackmon and Marion didn't make the latest top 10.
The rankings held to form on Monday night as Tech beat Marion 83-67 in the featured game of the night. Lyles had 29 points and 12 rebounds for Tech. Blackmon Jr. had 29 points for Marion, and his brother, Vijay Blackmon, added 20 points.
The game was close until midway through the third quarter, when Tech pulled away. Blackmon Jr. has now scored 54, 39, 37 and 29 points in his four games this season. The Giants are 2-2 in those games, falling to Lawrence North by a point and to Tech.
Blackmon Jr. is averaging 39.8 points per game this season.
