James Blackmon Jr. scored 30 points in Marion's 76-68 win over Homestead on Friday night, setting up an intriguing game on Saturday afternoon.
Blackmon Jr. and Marion will play third-ranked Hamilton Southeastern (8-0) at noon Saturday at Fort Wayne's Carroll High School. The game is part of the Carroll Shootout, which started yesterday and ends with the title game tonight.
So why is the matchup so intriguing? Well, we'll get to see how Blackmon Jr., a 2014 Indiana signee and five-star recruit, fairs against one of the state's best teams. Hamilton Southeastern has had only two of its eight games decided by 10 points or less, and has won four games by at least 20 points, including both in the Carroll Shootout thus far.
HSE beat Fort Wayne Blackhawk 101-74 and DeKalb 74-29 yesterday.
Blackmon Jr. had scored 30 points in all but one of his six games this season, scoring 29 points in the other against Indianapolis Tech. Blackmon Jr. is averaging 36.8 points per game on the season.
If Marion beats Hamilton Southeastern, it will play in the title game at 8 p.m. at the Carroll Fieldhouse. If it loses, it will play at 6 p.m. in the consolation game.
