Florida linebacker commits to Indiana

Greg Gooch became Indiana's 25th commitment in the class of 2014 Monday night when he chose the Hoosiers over a final three that also included Cincinnati and Iowa State. Gooch is the fifth player from the state of Florida in this IU recruiting class and the fourth linebacker.

Indiana has picked up another commitment on the defensive side of the ball.

Greg Gooch, a 6-1, 240-pound middle linebacker from Lyman High School in Longwood, Fla., has given Indiana a verbal commitment according to a report in the Orlando Sentinel Monday night.

Gooch chose the Hoosiers over his other two finalists, Cincinnati and Iowa State according to the report in the Sentinel.

Scout.com's Dave Berk reported earlier in the evening that it appeared Gooch was headed to the Hoosiers.

Gooch is a 3-star prospect by Scout.com that also had Division I scholarship offers from Arizona, Connecticut, Memphis and Mississippi State.

He becomes IU's 25th commit which would the Hoosiers' maximum number if everyone signs.

Gooch is IU's fifth player in this class to come from the state of Florida in this class and the second commit from Florida in as many days. Sunday, IU picked up a commitment from Will Dawkins, a wide receiver from Vero Beach (Fla.) High School.

The other Florida players in this class are OT Delroy Baker from Ocala Westport, CB Tony Fields from Tallahassee Godby and CB Waynedriko Smith from Maitland Orangewood Christian.

He is also the fourth linebacker in this class joining an impressive group that already featured Airius Moore, Dameon Willis and Tegray Scales.

The news of Gooch's decision came a few hours after Indiana learned it did not get a commitment from Phenix City, Ala. Safety Christian Campbell. Campbell, who was believed to be choosing Monday between Indiana and Minnesota, made an surprise announcement that he would attend Penn State.
