Indiana sophomore Hanner Mosquera-Perea was arrested and booked in the Monroe County Jail early Friday morning on a charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, a spokesman at the Monroe County Jail has confirmed.
According to a report by Fox59 in Indianapolis, Perea was pulled over around 4:45 a.m. The report said his blood alcohol level was 0.15, nearly twice the legal limit to drive in Indiana.
Reportedly the charge on Mosquera-Perea was an OWI while causing endangerment. As of 9 a.m. Friday, Mosquera-Perea was still in custody.
At 10 a.m., IU coach Tom Crean had his scheduled teleconference with the media to talk about Purdue and he addressed the situation at that time.
Crean said he first learned about Perea at 8:15 Friday morning.
"We're aware of it, we're in the process of getting more information,'' Crean said. "It's a disappointing shock to all of us but at the same time we'll wait to learn more about it.
"I don't have an update on anything other than that."
