Indiana left out of NIT field

The Hoosiers came into the day on the bubble, and did not make the NIT on Sunday night.

Both the NCAA Tournament and NIT brackets were revealed on Sunday night, and Indiana was not included on either one.

The Hoosiers (17-15) entered the day on the NIT bubble, but missed the cut. That was due, in part, to teams like Georgia State losing in their conference tournaments. Georgia State won its regular season title, but lost in the conference tournament title game, giving it an automatic berth to the NIT.

Minnesota was the top overall seed in the NIT, and Illinois also made the tournament as a No. 2 seed.

The other option for IU would have been the College Basketball Invitational, which is a 16-team pay to play tournament. Purdue played in that event last season.

But Indiana athletic director Fred Glass confirmed to site publisher Terry Hutchens in a text message Sunday night that the Hoosiers would not participate in the CBI. Top Stories
