Maten named Gatorade Player of Year in Mich.

Indiana recruiting prospect Yante Maten was named the Gatorade Player of the Year in Michigan.

Yante Maten doesn't own an Indiana offer just yet, but it would be fair to call the Hoosiers' interest significant.

A member of the IU coaching staff was in to see Maten for the third time in a five-day period on Friday. Both Tom Crean and Kenny Johnson were on hand as Maten put up 25 points and 18 rebounds to send his team to the Class A state title game today.

Indiana assistant Tim Buckley was in to see Maten, a 6-foot-8 forward, on Monday, and Crean watched his tournament game on Tuesday night. Maten has also had recent interest from Michigan State.

The other good news: Maten was named the Gatorade Player of the Year in the state of Michigan on Friday. Maten plays for Bloomfield Hills in the greater Detroit area.

Maten's title game can be viewed on Fox Sports Detroit this afternoon. The game began at 1 p.m. EST. We will have more on him after the game. Top Stories
