Indiana offers 2014 F Yante Maten

The Hoosiers have seen him several times in the last week. They extended an offer on Sunday.

After seeing him several times in the last week, Indiana extended a scholarship offer to 2014 forward Yante Maten on Sunday.

Maten, a 6-foot-7, 220-pound forward from Bloomfield Hills High School in the Detroit area, also has offers from Colorado, TCU, Utah and Virginia Tech. Maten was named the Gatorade Player of the Year in the state of Michigan over the weekend.

The Hoosiers first watched Maten last Monday when assistant coach Tim Buckley visited him at his school. Indiana coach Tom Crean was up to see his playoff game the next night, and Maten put on a show. He finished with 31 points and 17 points in front of the IU head coach.

Crean and assistant coach Kenny Johnson were back to see Maten on Friday night, and he was excellent again. He had 25 points and 18 rebounds to send Bloomfield Hills to the Class A state title game.

Maten is expected to visit Indiana officially soon. We will have more on this story as it develops. Top Stories
