Indy native Martin to transfer from Xavier

Justin Martin averaged 11.7 points an 5.2 rebounds for Xavier last season. Could Indiana be a potential destination?

Xavier junior Justin Martin will transfer, the school announced Friday.

Martin, a 6-foot-6 forward, is an Indianapolis native who began his high school career at Lawrence North. He averaged 11.7 points and 5.2 rebounds per game for Xavier last season.

Martin will be eligible to play immediately, which could make him an intriguing prospect for Tom Crean and the Hoosiers.

Martin played his best ball in Big East play last season. He had four games of 20 or more points, all of which came on or after Jan. 12. He had 22 points and seven rebounds on only seven shot attempts against DePaul, and he had 20 points and seven rebounds against Marquette. Those games were back-to-back.

Martin shot 45 percent from the field, 37 percent from beyond the arc and 77 percent from the foul line. He played 28.2 minutes per game.
