Indiana pitcher Kyle Hart, the Hoosiers' number two starter, will undergo Tommy John surgery and miss the remainder of the season, the school announced Monday.
"This is a tough break for Kyle, but surgery is the best option for him right now," Indiana manager Tracy Smith said in a statement. "We look forward to Kyle returning better than ever and leading our pitching staff in 2015."
Hart with 3-1 with a 2.29 ERA in six starts and nine overall appearances this season. He also earned a save. Hart was the Big Ten Pitcher of the week in back-to-back weeks March 17 and 24, and he allowed only three earned runs in 28.1 innings in the month of March.
It's a significant blow to the Hoosiers, who have been playing incredibly well lately.
