Big weekend ahead for IU Baseball

Indiana has a two-game lead in the Big Ten standings at the halfway point but a big three-game series with second place Illinois is ahead this weekend in Champaign.

The Indiana baseball team made it through the first half of the Big Ten conference season with an impressive 11-1 record.

That mark includes a string of nine victories in a row in conference play with back-to-back-to-back series sweeps of Ohio State, Iowa and Michigan State.

The Hoosiers (25-11 overall) lone loss of the conference season was a narrow one-run defeat to Michigan on the Sunday of the conference-opening three-game series in March.

IU's hot start, however, will be put to the test this weekend when Indiana travels to Champaign to take on Illinois. The Illini are in second place in Big Ten play with a 9-3 conference mark. Illinois is 21-14 overall.

Nebraska (8-4) is in third, followed by Michigan (8-7), Iowa (7-8), Penn State (5-6), Michigan State (5-7), Minnesota (6-9), Ohio State (4-8), Purdue (4-8) and Northwestern (4-10).

IU's other conference series' in the second half of the season include Purdue at home, at Penn State and Minnesota at home.

First pitch for the Hoosiers on Friday at Illinois is at 7 p.m. with the Saturday game at 4 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. Top Stories
