A look at this week in Big Ten Baseball

Indiana has a three-game lead in Big Ten play with nine games to go while several teams are battling to finish in the top eight this season. In a switch this year, the top eight teams advance to the Big Ten Tournament in Omaha. In the past, it has just been the top 6 teams. One interesting matchup to look ahead to could be IU and Nebraska in the tournament as they don't play in the regular season.

Fifteen games into the Big Ten baseball conference season, the Hoosiers find themselves in first place with a full three game lead over both Nebraska and Illinois with nine to play.

Over the weekend, the Hoosiers defeated Illinois twice to take the series and improve to 13-2 in Big Ten play. IU is 8-1 in Big Ten road games this season. The Hoosiers beat Illinois on Friday 9-3, lost 2-1 on Saturday and bounced back to take Sunday's series finale 11-3 in a game called after 8 innings because of weather.

Michigan State picked up a series sweep of Northwestern to move into fourth place in the Big Ten with an 8-7 overall record. The Spartans won on Friday 3-2, then 7-1 on Saturday and 15-3 on Sunday.

Minnesota also had three-game series sweep of Penn State in which the Golden Gophers only allowed one run in three games. Minnesota won on Friday 2-1, then swept a doubleheader on Saturday by shutout scores of 4-0 and 12-0.

Nebraska took the first two games of the Michigan series 6-4 and 3-1 before the Wolverines bounced back to win 7-5 on Sunday.

Purdue beat Ohio State 4-3 in 13 innings Friday but the Buckeyes bounced back to win 2-0 on Saturday and 11-2 on Sunday.

Iowa swept South Dakota State in a three-game series in non-conference action.
