2016 C Benson talks Indiana offer

Barret Benson, a 2016 center from Illinois, talked to AllHoosiers.com about his recent IU offer.

Barret Benson, a 2016 center from Illinois, received an offer from Indiana on Monday after he played well in front of IU's coaching staff in AAU last weekend.

Benson, 6-foot-9 and 210 pounds, is a three-star prospect and the 12th-ranked center in the class. He also owns offers from DePaul, Oregon State and Penn State.

Benson talked with AllHoosiers.com this week about the Indiana offer. Here's the Q&A from that discussion with our Justin Albers.

ALBERS: First, what are your thoughts on the Indiana offer and how did they go about officially offering you?

BENSON: "It's an honor to receive an offer from Indiana. It's really exciting to have the opportunity to become familiar with such a great University throughout my recruiting process.

"I called Coach Crean Monday night and we talked for awhile and during this talk he told me that he would like to offer me a scholarship to Indiana University."

ALBERS: I know it's early in the process for you, but would you say Indiana is pretty high on your list at this point?

BENSON: "I haven't really even made a list at this point to be honest."

ALBERS: Think you'll visit IU sometime this summer?

BENSON: "I'm not sure what my summer visits entail yet but I should be sitting down to map out what I plan on doing soon."

ALBERS: What do you like about Indiana at this point? What has Crean's pitch been to you?

BENSON: "I like that they are a strong basketball and academic school that's known for a winning tradition. Coach Crean has really pitched the comparison of me to the previous players like Cody Zeller and Noah Vonleh and their success after college, and also the IU winning attitude and tradition."
