IU hosts Purdue in three-game series

Indiana continues Big Ten play in baseball tonight with the first game of a three-game weekend series with Purdue at Bart Kaufman Field. The Hoosiers are ranked No. 11 in the nation and No. 2 in the most recent RPI. IU is 29-12 overall and 13-2 in Big Ten play and holds a three-game lead over both Nebraska and Illinois.

Indiana opens a three-game series tonight against conference rival Purdue when the Hoosiers play host to the Boilermakers with a first pitch of 7:05 p.m. ET at Bart Kaufman Field.

Joey DeNato, who leads all active Division I pitchers with 33 career wins, will be on the mound for Indiana tonight. DeNato is 9-1 this season with a 2.26 ERA. He has a perfect 5-0 record in Big Ten play.

He will be opposed by Purdue's Connor Podkul who is 0-3 with a 6.75 ERA.

Indiana brings a No. 11 national ranking and No. 2 in the RPI into tonight's first game of the series. The Hoosiers are 29-12 and 13-2 in Big Ten play. IU has a full three game lead in the conference standings over both Nebraska and Illinois.

Purdue has IU's overall record flipped. The Boilers are 12-29 and 5-10 in conference play.

This is the first meeting between the two teams since they met (and brawled) in the 2012 Big Ten Championship game in Columbus, Ohio. They did not meet in the regular season the last two years.

IU is coming off a 16-1 mid-week victory at Miami of Ohio. The Hoosiers had a season high 16 runs on a season high 20 hits in that game.

Following tonight, the series continues on Saturday at Bart Kaufman Field with a 2:05 p.m. ET first pitch. Christian Morris will go for the Hoosiers against Jordan Minch. The series finale is Sunday at 12:05 p.m. ET with Brian Korte throwing for IU against Gavin Downs.

Sunday's game will be televised on the Big Ten Network.
