Indiana high on 2016 guard Pritchard

The Hoosiers are now recruiting Payton Pritchard, a 2016 guard from Oregon. More here.

There's a new name on Indiana's 2016 radar.

The Hoosiers are now recruiting guard Payton Pritchard from Oregon, a three-star target. Pritchard will visit Indiana unofficially on May 19, according to his father, Terry.

Pritchard is a pass-first point guard who had 15 assists in a game last weekend. He can also shoot it from the perimeter, but is more likely to impact a college team as a point guard who can run the team.

Pritchard recently picked up offers from Arizona State, Washington and Oklahoma, and he already owns offers from Oregon and Oregon State.

"We really like IU. Love their style of play," Terry Pritchard told "They have a great tradition and basketball history. We heard from them on and off for the last year but more often since our tournament in Dallas."

Indiana coach Tom Crean first saw Pritchard play at that tournament in Dallas three weeks ago during the only evaluation period until July. Ever since, the Hoosiers have been high on Pritchard.

"He can really shoot but he is best at leading a team and getting his teammates involved," Terry said. "Just a great decision maker. He is an unselfish player but will score when he needs to."
