IU baseball beats Penn State, 8-1

Indiana spotted Penn State an early run but then scored the game's final eight runs to beat the Nittany Lions Saturday afternoon at Medlar Field. Both Sam Travis and Kyle Schwarber recorded solo home runs and Christian Morris pitched seven innings to record his fourth win of the season.

Coming into the weekend series between Indiana and Penn State, not a single home run had been hit at Penn State's Medlar Field all season.

In two games, the Hoosiers have hit three.

Sam Travis and Kyle Schwarber each hit solo home runs Saturday as No. 8 Indiana beat Penn State 8-1. The Hoosiers have won the first two games of the series by a total run output of 18-1.

Indiana (34-12, 18-2 Big Ten) now has a three-game lead with four games to play as both Nebraska and Illinois won on Saturday to stay within three games of the lead. If Indiana beats Penn State Sunday, the Hoosiers will clinch a share of the Big Ten title. IU will host Minnesota next weekend in the Big Ten Conference final series of the conference season.

Penn State is now 17-28 overall and 5-14 in conference play.

Travis has now hit two of the home runs this weekend and leads the Hoosiers with nine home runs on the season. He also has 49 RBI to lead the team and the Big Ten.

Dustin DeMuth went 3-for-4 with two RBI to increase his batting average to .384. DeMuth has reached base safely in 43 straight games.

Christian Morris picked up the win for the Hoosiers and improved to 4-3 on the year. He threw seven innings, allowed just one run on six hits with three strikeouts and two walks.

The two teams are back in action on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET in the series finale.
