Indiana calls Top 10 prospect Amir Coffey

Tom Crean was busy on Sunday. Among the calls he made was to 2016 forward Amir Coffey.

It was a busy Sunday on the recruiting front as the contact period for 2016 recruits opened at midnight Saturday.

Among the players Indiana coach Tom Crean called was five-star forward Amir Coffey, who plays at Hopkins High School in Minnesota. Coffey, 6-foot-6 and 160 pounds, is the 10th-ranked player in the 2016 class and the No. 4 small forward.

Coffey said he received an offer from Indiana last summer but that his relationship with the Hoosiers is just starting since Sunday was the first time their coaches were able to talk to him.

"But my interest in them is high," Coffey told "It's a great school."

Coffey currently owns offers from Minnesota, Creighton, Iowa State, Penn State and Indiana, Miami (Fl.) and Wisconsin. He said he also heard from North Carolina, Northwestern and Baylor on Sunday.

"At this point I would say it's all even," Coffey said. "it's pretty early for me to single out schools.

"I've watched [Indiana] a few times this year and tried to keep up with them as much as I could." Top Stories
